Locatie : Magdalenazaal 

Tijdens een voorstelling in de Magdalenazaal werden de Brugse kampioenen gehuldigd en de sportprijzen uitgereikt.  Het Verbond van Brugse Sportjournalisten verkoos wielrenner Jens Keukeleire tot Sportman, snookerspeelster Cathy Dehaene tot Sportvrouw en de Brugse Zwemkring tot Sportploeg van 2009. Verder was er voor de 48ste keer de overhandiging van de Trofee van Sportverdienste. Die ging dit keer naar gewezen bokser Freddy Demeulenaere. 
De Jeugdtrofee was voor een beoefenaar van skeeleren en shorttrack:
MATHIAS VOSTE.

Jeugdtrofee

Voor de Jeugdtrofee waren er vijf genomineerden : Karim Makelberg (judoschool Sen-no-Sen), Gianna Nachtegaele (Lifedanscenter Izegem ), Mathias Vosté (Inline team Brugge)
Annabel Sanders (Turnkring Rust Roest Brugge) en de cadetten
meisjes van Krachtbalclub Robland. De trofee ging naar Vosté.
Hij pakte in het skeeleren verscheidene nationale titels, werd
Europees kampioen (10 km afvalling op de weg) en reed twee
Europese besttijden. Zijn droom is weliswaar nog altijd om als
shorttracker aan de volgende Olympische Winterspelen deel te nemen.

De finale van de Star Class wedstrijden ging door in het hoge Noorden van Nederland namelijk te Leeuwarden. Mathias had 2 afstanden voor de boeg namelijk de 500 en de 1000 m.

500m
Er wordt gestart met de heats van de 500m. Mathias kwalificeert zich voor de QF met een tijd van 46"185' net na Itzhak de Laat (Nederland). In de QF verloopt alles vlotjes. Mathias kan zich gemakkelijk kwalificeren voor de SF dit met een tijd van 46"161"'. De SF is een feit. In de SF kunnen Itzhak en Mathias gemakkelijk doorstoten naar de F. In de SF behaalt Itzhak hierbij een tijd van 45"991"'.
In de F moet Mathias echter het onderspit delven en dienst Andrea Cassinelli (Italië) en Itzhak de Laat te laten voorgaan. Mathias staat als 3e genoteerd in het eindklassement van de 500m.

1000m
Een afstand die iets moeilijker van start gaat. In de heats kwalificeert Mathias zich jammer genoeg niet voor de F van groep 1. Hij dient Arjan Kramer en Alessandro Moralis te laten voorgaan. Verder kwalificeert Mathias zich voor de QF, SF en F van groep 5. Hierbij eindigt hij op een 18e plaats in het eindklassement van de 1000m met een tijd van 1'40"383"'.

In het eindklassement van de Star Class wedstrijden eindigt Mathias op een 5e plaats als jongste van alle tegenstanders. Knap.

The Finals of the Star Class Competition go through in the North of the Netherlands at Leeuwarden. Mathias has 2 distances to race more exactly the 500 and 1000 m.

500m
Starting with the Heats of the 500m Mathias qualifies himself for the QF with a time of 46"185"'. He just had to let Itzhak de Laat go before him.
In the QF everything goes smoothly. Mathias qualifies himself easily for the SF with a time of 46"161"'.
No problems during thd SF. Itzhak and Mathias go through to the F. In the SF they put down a time of 45"991"'.
In the F Mathias has to be satisfied with a 3rd place. Andrea Cassinelli and Ithzak de Laat are those two competitors that are just that little bit better. In the overall classification of the 500m Mathias ends 3rd.

The 1000 m therefore is another game. This distance doesn't go as smoothly als Mathias hoped it would be. Mathias can't qualifie himself. Arjan Kramer and Alessondro Moralis are too strong for Mathias and on top of that Mathias takes a few wrong steps what costs him a few places. In the QF, SF and F of his Group Mathias becomes 18th in the overall classification of the 1000 m with a time of 1'40"383"'.

In the total Result of the  Star Class Competition Mathias ends, as youngest of all Competitors, on the 5the place. Superb!

Eerste afstand 1000m. Een trage QF. Mathias wordt 2de na ALMEIDA (FRA) met een tijd van 1'.49".811''' en kwalificeert zich voor de HF in groep 1. Hier komt hij uit tegen 3 Engelsen (MILLER,CHEETHAM,SOLES)
Mathias komt als 1e over de streep (1'.38".267''') en kwalificeert zich voor de A-finale. Terug 4 Englese tegenstrevers. Hij start als laatste maar houdt alles goed in het oog. Ronde na ronde komt hij geleidelijk aan naar voor. Enkel met T ADAMS, die veel met z'n armen zwaait, is het opletten geblazen. Ook hier komt Mathias goed voorbij en gaat samen met SOLES naar de finish om er nipt als 1e aan te komen (1'.36".154'''). Dit levert hem een 1e plaats op in het afstandsklassement.
Tweede afstand 500m. De QF rijdt hij met CHEETHAM (ENG), ROCHE en TENAZONI (FRA). Mathias gaat er als een raket vandoor en wint met een tijd van 46".137'''. Op naar de HF. We eindigen de dag nog met de aflossingen. Deze wedstrijden vallen buiten het klassement.
De volgende dag, HF 500M. Terug Engels-Franse tegenstand. Mathias wint opnieuw met een betere tijd (45".839''') en baant zich zo een weg naar de finale. Hier komt hij uit tegen 2 Franse (ALMEIDA, LAFARGE) en 1 Engelse (CHEETHAM) schaatser. Lafarge is niet gestart wegens een val in het tornooi. Mathias is heer en meester en wint terug met een tijd van 45".347'''. Dit levert hem terug een 1e plaats op in de 500m.
Nog de super-finale 1500m. Terug tegen 4 Engelse (CHEETHAM,SIMMS, HENRYS en ADAMS) en 1 Franse (ROCHE) schaatser. Ook hier laat hij z'n tegenstanders initiatief nemen. Hij houdt alles goed in het oog. Met een mooi staaltje van technische vaardigheid is hij ze terug allemaal voorbij en finisht als 1e over de streep (2'.30".213'''). Hij behaalt een 1e plaats op de 1500m. In het overall klassement is Mathias ook 1e en mag op het hoogste podium z'n beker in ontvangst nemen.

The first distance for Mathias is the 1000m. In spite of the fact that the QF was slow, he qualifies himself for the SF in group 1 with a time of 1'.49".811'''. In the SF he has to compete against 3 English boys : MILLER, CHEETHAM and SOLES. Mathias ends 1st in this race (1'.38".267'''). The final is real. In the final again 4 English competitors. Mathias starts last, but keeps an eye om everybody. Lap after lap, he gets himself from the back to the front. Eventually he has to pass ADAMS. A hard task because Adams moves a lot with his arms. But no problem for Mathias. Together with his rival SOLES, Mathias goes to the finish. Mathias wins with a time of 1'.36".154'''. In the classification of the 1000m, Mathias takes the 1st place. 
The second distance he has to race is the 500m. His opponents in the QF are CHEETHAM (ENG), ROCHE and TENAZONI (FRA). Mathias races so fast that none of his opponents can follow him. He wins the 500m in 46".137'''. The next race is the SF, but that's for the following day.
As ready as he can be, Mathias starts his SF again against English and French competitors. This time he even puts down a better time : 45".839'''. The final is waiting for him. In the final, Mathias has to race against ALMEIDA and LAFARGE (FRA) and CHEETHAM. Lafarge doesn't start because of a fall during the competition earlier. Mathias is the strongest one and wins in the time of 45".347'''. In the classification of the 500m this puts him again 1th.
The last distance (super-final) is the 1500m. Again 4 English and 1 French opponent. With a fine example of technical skill, Mathias wins this race in 2'.30".213'''. He becoms 1th. Finally, Mathias takes first place in the overall classification. A trophee is waiting for him.
